Public Housing Program
The Meridian Housing Authority owns and manages public housing developments throughout the city of Meridian, Mississippi. Of the nine developments, one property is designated as elderly, and the remaining properties are designated as family developments. The MHA Asset Management program consists of 1,215 public housing units providing affordable housing to more than 3,000 low-income citizens in Meridian, Mississippi.
Over the past ten years, MHA has undertaken the most comprehensive plan in the city’s history to improve the physical conditions of its units and to improve the quality of affordable housing units. The first phase spending included over $17,000,000 received in HOPE VI funding to complete the revitalization of the Victory Village community, now known as Carousel Place. The revitalization focused on major system upgrades, infrastructure such as lighting, heating, plumbing upgrades, major landscaping, wall-to-wall carpeting and building enhancements to enable the site to look and compete with market rate apartment complexes.
MHA also completed major modernization efforts at J.T. Davis Courts and Frank Berry Developments. MHA is in the process of completing (10) single family homes constructed from the use of HUD replacement housing factor funds (RHF). The new development will be known as Carousel View Homes.
The Asset Management Department has direct responsibility for the overall administration of the agency’s public housing program.
