Living With MHA (Meridian Housing Authority)
The Meridian Housing Authority was incorporated in 1939 and provides decent, safe and affordable housing opportunities to more than 3,000 residents in the City of Meridian, Mississippi. This agency currently administers 1215 public housing units, 215 Housing Choice Vouchers (Section 8) and manages 89 mixed income, privately managed apartments. The main office is located near downtown Meridian in the South Meridian community adjacent to the Mt. View Village Housing community.
During FY2012, The Meridian Housing Authority (MHA) made a number of changes in its housing program that enabled MHA to receive the “High Performer” designation from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
Public Housing Program
The Authority’s Five Year Capital Plan provides for distressed housing units to be completely demolished or rehabilitated. During FY2012, MHA received HUD replacement housing Factor Funds to build 10 single family homes.
Assistant Housing Program
The Assisted Housing Department consists of various rental assistance programs such as Project-based vouchers, Transition Housing, Single Family Rentals and Housing Choice Vouchers.
