MAGNOLIA COURT RESIDENTS TO RE-DEDICATE COMMUNITY BUILDING
Annie F. Cockrell Multi-Purpose Center dedication
City, state and local officials, including Meridian Mayor Percy Bland, will join Executive Director Ron Turner, Sr. of the Meridian Housing Authority (MHA) along with the MHA Resident Advisory Board to celebrate the grand “re-opening” and dedication of the Annie F. Cockrell Multi-Purpose Center.
The event marks the major renovation of the Magnolia Court Community Center which received substantial damage caused by busted pipes during below freezing temperatures on last year.
The unveiling of the Annie F. Cockrell Multi-Purpose Building sign took place at approximately 11:45am following the program that was held on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at 11am at the Magnolia Court Community Center located at 1801 24th Street, Meridian, Mississippi.
The revitalized Annie F. Cockrell Multi-Purpose Center is breathing new life into the Magnolia Court community. The facility which was originally constructed on August 1, 1954 has been substantially renovated with energy-saving features and amenities that have created new space for supportive services for the residents of the community.
Last December, the Meridian Housing Authority received Capital Fund Program funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development HUD to assist in repairing major damage caused by flooding during below freezing temperatures.
At the completion of major repairs to the facility, MHA’s Board of Commissioners granted the community’s request to re-dedicate the building in honor of long-standing community supporter and business woman Annie F. Cockrell.
Mrs. Cockrell, a true friend of the Magnolia Community, has served the neighborhood faithfully for the past sixty (60) years through the services provided by the Cockrell Variety Store.
