TEN (10) Meridian Housing Authority High School Seniors To Receive Scholarship Opportunities Totaling $140,000.00

TEN (10) MERIDIAN HOUSING AUTHORITY HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS TO RECEIVE SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TOTALING $140,000.00

The Meridian Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners along with its staff and Resident Advisory Board are pleased to announce that MHA’s scholarship endowment initiative will be awarding approximately $140,000 to ten deserving public housing program graduates.

WHAT:

The Meridian High School academic department will recognize the 10 MHA scholarship recipients during its distinguished 2023 Senior Night program.

When: The Meridian High School senior night recognition program will be held in the Meridian High School auditorium on Thursday, May 4,2023 at 6:00 pm

DETAILS:

The purpose of Meridian Housing Authority scholarship program serves to recognize and encourage deserving public housing residents on their decision to continue their educational endeavors.

Alexia Mosley (Western Gardens) and Jamire Clayton (Site 410A) were selected to receive the 2023 Jeanell E Kidd HOPE VI Endowment Scholarship Award totaling $65,000.00 each.

Other MHA residents receiving scholarship awards include:

 Octavia Burton (Magnolia Courts), Taylor Darden (Sowashee Courts), Camron Colton (Eastern Gardens) Janiya Henderson (Western Gardens) Kendis Irving (MHA-HCV) Zykeevian King (MHA-HCV) Jakaylah Malone (Magnolia Court) Shanya Price (Magnolia Court)

“Investing in families residing in MHA’s ten affordable housing communities guarantees a brighter future for themselves and their families” says Executive Director, Ron Turner Sr.

On September 17, 2009 MHA partnered with The Community Foundation of East Mississippi (CFEM) for the purpose of managing its Jeanell Kidd HOPE VI Endowment Scholarship Fund. The endowment encourages the educational advancement of qualifying MHA-HCV residents.

The Meridian Housing Authority exists to provide decent, safe and affordable housing opportunities for 3,500 eligible citizens of Meridian. Additionally, MHA currently owns and operates 1,054 public housing and 9 non-subsidized units. MHA administers 225 Housing Choice Vouchers and provides (10) Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing Vouchers (VASH) to local veterans facing chronic homelessness in the City of Meridian.
