MHA GRADUATING SENIOR RECEIVES JEANELLE E. KIDD HOPE VI ENDOWMENT SCHOLARSHIP AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $60,000.00
The Meridian Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners along with its staff and Resident Advisory Board are pleased to announce that MHA is awarding approximately $70,000.00 to ten promising public housing graduates to continue their academic endeavors.
When:
MHA will host its annual scholarship luncheon on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. at Meridian Community’s College’s Magnolia Hall located at 4500 Highland Park Drive. The purpose of the luncheon is to recognize and encourage deserving public housing residents on their decision to continue their educational endeavors. SaFrench Terry (Magnolia Courts) was selected to receive the 2019 Jeanelle Kidd Hope VI Endowment Scholarship award totaling $60,000.00

Cartavion Naylor (Magnolia Courts), Darrius Hill (Eastern Garden) Skiah Pickett (Sowashee Courts), JaTravion Spencer (Sowashee Courts), Clarionna Gray (Western Gardens), Dontrell Powell (Western Gardens), Ja’Quan Dupre Jennings (Mt. View Village), Jonathan Merritt (Highway Village) and Rudasja McWilliams (Mt View Village)
Mr. James Carter, founder of the Carter Foundation will deliver the commencement address.

“Investing in families residing in MHA’s ten affordable housing communities guarantees a brighter future for themselves and their families” says Executive Director, Ron Turner Sr. On September 17, 2009 MHA partnered with The Community Foundation of East Mississippi (CFEM) for the purpose of managing its Jeanelle Kidd HOPE VI Endowment Trust Fund.The fund encourages the educational advancement of qualifying MHA residents.
The Meridian Housing Authority exists to provide decent, safe and affordable housing opportunities for 3,500 eligible citizens of Meridian. Additionally, MHA currently owns and operates 1,235 affordable housing apartments and administers 211 Housing Choice Vouchers. MHA also provides (10) Veteran Affairs Supportive Housing Vouchers (VASH) to local veterans facing chronic homelessness in the City of Meridian.
