A press conference will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 11:30 a.m. in the Meridian Housing Authority’s Central Office training room located at 2425 E Street, Meridian, MS 39301.The purpose of the presser will be to update the community on the agency’s plan to allocate up to $8.3 million in HUD funding for various revitalization and security improvements.
DETAILS:
The US Department of Housing and Urban Development has approved the Meridian Housing Authority’s proposal and funding request in connection with a tax-exempt revenue bond issuance in the amount of $8,395,000.00 to fund urgently needed repairs to its existing affordable housing inventory. The Authority will use the proceeds of the bond transaction to modernize and implement enhancements at Highway Village to include: security fencing and security camera upgrades, electrical for HVAC, central heat and air, pinnacle roofs, major façade improvements, site lighting fixtures, energy efficient windows, interior and exterior building painting, new storm and entry door upgrades, laundromat conversion, attic insulation, landscaping and erosion upgrades, clothesline removal and new signage. Upgrades to Eastern and Western Gardens along with Oakland Heights will include: major bathroom renovations and handicap accessible improvements. (See Highway Village attachment)
Finally, the funding provides an excellent opportunity for MHA Youth Build participants to gain valuable training and construction experience while building a free-standing home in the Highway Village Community.
