MERIDIAN HOUSING AUTHORITY’S GEORGE REESE COURTS COMMUNITY RECOVERS AFTER
2018 EF-2 TORNADO
“George Reese community leaders to show appreciation to first respondents and citywide volunteers”
What: City, state and local leaders including George Reese Court’s Resident Advisory President, Marshall McKey, will join the Meridian Housing Authority’s Board of Commissioners along with its Executive Director, Ron Turner, Sr.,staff and residents to celebrate the grand re-opening of the tornado damaged “L “Building. The “L” Building is located in the heart of the George Reese Court community.
On April 14, 2018 the City of Meridian experienced an EF-2 tornado which caused over $1.5 million dollars in property damage throughout five of MHA’s affordable housing communities. Eight families were successfully relocated as a result of the immediate actions of the city’s first responders and local community volunteers. As a show of appreciation, George Reese Court Resident leaders will host a special ribbon cutting celebration along with a community BBQ cookout.

Where: The revitalized “L” Building is located at 1318 19th Street in the heart of the George Reese Courts affordable housing community.
Details: The newly renovated “L” Building is breathing new hope and new housing opportunities into the lives of eligible MHA families. There are approximately 205 qualified families waiting to receive assistance through the agency’s public housing program. The renovation of the “L”building enhances the agency’s ability to provide adequate and affordable housing for all Meridian citizens particularly those with low and moderate incomes.

Additionally, the agency conducts several social service programs that promote self-sufficiency, empowerment and respect.
